Local banking is well better for a sandbox.
That involve realistic clans features that never happen with the universal banking, suck caravans, trade travel, merchant ship and much more. All the solution for travel with good's from a group of player.
Aslo its better for the economy, an item can have a different value depending of the area you buy/sell it, local economy work successfull from these "local" ressources you find only there, millions of posibility for player under the role of a merchand.
Finaly, local bank add another dimension if the game is full-loot... no explain needed for this point....
Universal banking is a pure mecanisme for make easier the game-play, like universal trade system, teleportation system, auto-target, auto-split loot, level based, etc... a sandbox is the opposite of that.
